Enabling secure access, medication reordering and deeper NHS integration

The Digital Health Passport (DHP), developed by Tiny Medical Apps, is now live with NHS login in commissioned areas of England.

This means that where an Integrated Care Board (ICB) has commissioned the Digital Health Passport, patients can now use their NHS login to securely access the app, link their verified NHS identity, and benefit from deeper integration with NHS services — including repeat medication ordering and access to clinically relevant information.

What NHS login enables for patients and clinicians

NHS login provides a trusted, secure way for patients to prove who they are online. By integrating NHS login into the Digital Health Passport, Tiny Medical Apps has enabled functionality that goes beyond standalone health apps.

In practice, this allows:

  • Secure access to the Digital Health Passport using an existing NHS login
  • Verified patient identity, reducing duplication and friction
  • Repeat medication ordering where services are enabled locally
  • A more joined-up experience between patient-facing tools and NHS systems
  • Greater confidence for clinicians recommending the app as part of care

Importantly, the Digital Health Passport works alongside routine clinical care, supporting self-management rather than replacing appointments.

Designed for real-world NHS use

Implementing NHS login is not a simple technical switch. It requires meeting high standards for clinical safety, governance, identity assurance and system reliability.

For Tiny Medical Apps, NHS login has been part of a long-term strategy to ensure the Digital Health Passport could safely scale within the NHS, particularly for children and young people living with long-term conditions.

Matt Bourne, CTO and Co-founder of Tiny Medical Apps, said:

"NHS login is a critical piece of national infrastructure, and integrating it properly takes time and care. The value isn't just convenience — it's trust, safety and the ability to connect patient-facing tools with NHS systems in a meaningful way. Having NHS login live in commissioned areas means the Digital Health Passport can support things like medication reordering and identity verification in a way clinicians and patients can rely on."

Supporting commissioners and Integrated Care Systems

For ICBs, NHS login integration provides reassurance that the Digital Health Passport:

  • Aligns with national NHS identity standards
  • Meets high expectations around data security and governance
  • Can integrate with existing NHS pathways and services
  • Supports scalable, system-level adoption rather than isolated pilots

This is particularly important for services supporting children and young people, where confidence, safety and parental trust are essential.

Building foundations for the next phase of digital care

NHS login integration also lays the groundwork for future development, including:

  • Deeper interoperability with NHS systems
  • More efficient use of clinical time
  • Stronger evidence generation around digital self-management
  • Expansion into additional conditions such as epilepsy and holistic wellbeing

For Tiny Medical Apps, NHS login is not an end point, but a foundation — enabling the Digital Health Passport to evolve as part of the wider NHS digital ecosystem.

What this means for patients

For patients in commissioned areas, NHS login makes accessing the Digital Health Passport simpler and more secure, while unlocking features that fit into everyday life — such as medication reordering and trusted access to personalised care information.

As with all DHP features, access depends on local commissioning and service configuration. Patients in areas where the Digital Health Passport is commissioned can now use NHS login as part of their care journey.
